What Banyan Is
Banyan (banyan.family) is a collaborative family tree app designed for festive gatherings. It helps families map relationships and stay connected.
Information We Collect
When you sign in, we collect:
- Account info: Email address and name from your Google account or magic link sign-in.
- Profile info you provide: Name, nickname, phone number, photo, and notes you choose to add to your family tree profile.
- Family tree data: Relationships, event attendance, and connections you create within your trees.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your session.
- To display your profile to other members of family trees you belong to.
- To enable family tree features (relationship mapping, search, event tagging).
We do not sell your data, run ads, or share your information with third parties for marketing.
Your Privacy Controls
- Phone number: Hidden by default. You control visibility per tree in Settings.
- Profile editing: Only you can edit your own profile.
- Tree access: Only people with the invite link can see a tree's members.
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted on AWS in Southeast Asia). Photos are stored in Supabase Storage. All connections use HTTPS encryption.
Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us. Tree elders can remove members from their trees.
